Oh yes, this is my new Doctor Who blog...there's very little I don't like about Who, so don't expect any wailing about John Hurt (I'm a bit excited, actually!), and yes I'll be posting Eight stuff too!
Okay, let’s tackle this like sane Time Lords and Ladies, shall we (not insane ones, like The Master or The Valeyard…or Rassilon)…

A lot of lovely Whovians seem very concerned with this state of affairs, particularly regarding the consequences this additional regeneration could have upon the continued existence of the series.
Firstly, IF (and it’s a BIG if) we’re going by generally accepted rules, Time Lords are allowed twelve regenerations. This doesn’t mean twelve lives, which in turn doesn’t mean that Matt Smith will be the final Doctor, he will just be the 12th Doctor/11th regeneration (remember, the 2nd Doctor was technically the 1st regeneration).  Now, there are probably HUNDREDS of reasons why even the actor that follows Mr Smith might not be the final regeneration. Let’s not forget that the limit to regenerations was a rule imposed by the Time Lords themselves, and one that can and HAS been broken before. Also, The Master (boo/yay!) was given a whole new cycle of regenerations, who’s to say that the Doctor won’t find out how this is done, or doesn’t know already how it’s done, and will get himself a whole new cycle?
What we can be sure of is that the talent of the writers and actors will see this show through. So stop fretting, stop denouncing John Hurt as the Doctor because it’s too late - he’s canon now, and just enjoy the show! Besides, John Hurt is an AMAZING actor, personally I’m very much looking forward to the talent he’ll bring to the role.
